Dr. Heney earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology in 1998. She also has her Education Specialist degree in School Psychology from the University of Nebraska. She has worked as a school psychologist since 1997. Dr. Heney also teaches undergraduate psychology courses for the FOCUS program at Northwestern College. She conducts psychological evaluations with infants, pre-school, and school-aged children for disability determination. Special interests include autism/pervasive developmental delays, learning and behavioral difficulties, ADHD, and cognitive/developmental delays.

August 2004- Present: School Psychologist, Robbinsdale Area Schools #281, Robbinsdale, Minnesota Working as a licensed school psychologist with the Robbinsdale Area Schools #281 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Schools include the Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School (K-5) and the Language and Technology Campus (6-8). Provide services to students, families, and staff members in a variety of capacities. These include cognitive, social/emotional, autism, adaptive, and functional behavioral assessments; consultations; individual and group work with students; coordination of 504 Plans; in-services for staff; and interventions for a variety of presenting problems. Many students are coming from dual-language home environments.

September 2002- Present Adjunct Faculty, Northwestern College, Roseville, Minnesota
Working as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate psychology courses for psychology students in the FOCUS program, which is a non-traditional program for adult students who are currently working in another career field. Specific courses include Adult Learning Theory, Tests and Measurement, Personality and Psychopathology, and Theories of Counseling.

July 2002- Present Clinical Psychologist, Gary Fischler & Associates, Mpls., MN.. Working as an independent licensed clinical psychologist with Gary Fischler & Associates in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Conducting psychological evaluations for clients referred from the Department of Social Services for the purpose of disability determination. Evaluations include the areas of cognitive/psychological, social/emotional, autism, and adaptive functioning, for clients ranging in age from infants to adults. Clients are referred with a variety of presenting problems, including ADHD, behavior problems, learning disabilities, developmental delays, autism,/Asperger’s, depression, anxiety, mental handicaps, etc.

Worked as a licensed school psychologist with the East Metro Integration District #6067 in Maplewood, Minnesota. Provided services to students and families from cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds in a variety of capacities. In addition, I work with students individually and in small groups on issues such as social skills, anxiety, anger management, and dealing with family change.

PRACTICUM/INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

August 1996- August 1997. Doctoral Internship with the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology, an APA-approved program funded through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Supervised by Kathleen Johnson, Ph.D., and William MacKay, Ph.D., in the Lincoln Public Schools conducting a variety of assessments, consultations, and interventions to include individual and group therapy. Additional experience includes Early Childhood assessment, curriculum-based assessment, and parent education seminars. 2000 hours.

September 1995- May 1996. Therapy Practicum working with Cheryl R. B. Erb, Ph.D., and Lawrence Panciera, Ph.D., at Northern Pines Community Programs in Cumberland, Wisconsin. Involved in intake assessments and therapy with children, adolescents, adults, and families with a wide range of problems and difficulties. 500 hours.

August 1994- June 1995. Diagnostic Practicum working with Andrea Canter, Ph.D., and Maureen Cleary, Ph.D., at the Minneapolis Public Schools. August 2001 - Present . Early Childhood Sunday School Teacher, Maple Grove, MN
Working as an Early Childhood Sunday School teacher with 4 and 5 year-olds at the Church of the Open Door in Maple Grove, MN. I have worked with a number of children with special needs such as Autism, Down’s Syndrome, and Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder. In addition, my responsibilities have included co-teaching as well as team leadership roles.

Spoke as a guest lecturer on the topic of Early Childhood intervention and evaluation for education courses at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Wesleyan University.
